The planetary community is a rich and diverse environment.
A number of historical resources, mailing lists, helpdesks are available online.
@Trent_Hare recently posted some useful technical questions and answers from [USGS astrodiscuss](https://astrodiscuss.usgs.gov/t/welcome-to-discourse/7) (thanks!! 🙏).
This thread would like to provide a list of those resources and their owners, in order to facilitate cross-posting and a more efficient and open information sharing.

Feel free to suggest new resources in the thread (I’m clearly not up to date… 🙂 )
Thanks for your collaboration!

# Virtual MRCTR Office Hours

> **[Virtual MRCTR Office Hours](https://www.usgs.gov/special-topics/planetary-geologic-mapping/virtual-mrctr-office-hours)**
>
> Live GIS and mapping support from the USGS-NASA Planetary Geologic Mapping Program

[MRCTR](https://www.usgs.gov/centers/astrogeology-science-center/science/mrctr-gis-lab) Office hours specialize in helping with geologic mapping efforts (largely using ArcGIS Pro), but Sarah is willing to help with most other planetary GIS questions.

For off-line mapping help:

- see Sarah’s [User’s Guide to Planetary Image Analysis and Geologic Mapping in ArcGIS Pro](https://www.usgs.gov/special-topics/planetary-geologic-mapping/planetary-mapping-and-gis-tutorials).
- More ArcGIS-based tutorials by [Tennessee Tech](https://tntechsedgeology.org/tutorials/).
- For QGIS mapping support see the [GMAP Planetary Geologic Mapping Winter School series](https://www.planetarymapping.eu/).
- For more simple mapping tasks, [JMARS](https://jmars.asu.edu/jmars-tutorials) might get you started also.
- [SPIF and ASU GIS training workshops](https://cornellspif.com/researchers/). The first [ASU training workshop](https://rgcps.asu.edu/gis-pdtw/) is already May 23-26, 2023 but watch out for more. The ASU series features GIS training, ISIS3 training, and a Photogrammetry day.

@cmarmo Astrodiscuss has officially been shut down and the link no longer resolves, so that one can be taken off the list.

The official GitHub for USGS ISIS has a Discussions tab:

> **[DOI-USGS/ISIS3 · Discussions](https://github.com/DOI-USGS/ISIS3/discussions)**
>
> Explore the GitHub Discussions forum for DOI-USGS ISIS3. Discuss code, ask questions & collaborate with the developer community.

That’s a good place for users to ask ISIS-specific questions and can provide a segue to opening issues if something a user asks about turns out to be a bug.
